Deadlines are approaching for the opportunity to take the 2011 Nuclear Professional Engineer (PE) National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) examination, required by all state registration boards for a PE license. The next administration of the NCEES/ANS Nuclear Engineers exam will be October 28, 2011.

NCEES will accept applications from June 15 to September 9, but there must first be approval of your state registration board to sit for the exam. Each state board sets its own deadline for applications, so check your board or its Web site immediately to obtain information on requirements.

Links for various state requirements are provided on the NCEES Web site and at the National Society of Professional Engineers' Web site. At either site, select the "Licensure" link.

A review course to help prepare for the exam is offered at the American Nuclear Society's Annual Conference in June in Hollywood, Fla.

A PE license evidences commitment to integrity and competence and enhances public trust. It also is an advantage in distinguishing yourself from other applicants in competing for employment opportunities and promotions.
