ANS Friday Nuclear Matinee

Our latest film at the ANS Friday Nuclear Matinee is an exciting one - the latest Vogtle Timeline update issued by Georgia Power, which was presented on December 9th.  This award-winning series details the construction progress quarterly at one of the two US sites where brand new nuclear power plants are being built.

Progress at the site is viewed through exclusive access to the normally off-limits (for reporters) work zones in this video.  Also, a good look at just what a nuclear plant does for its surrounding community is provided with a short description of last year's "Stuff the Bus" campaign which brought school supplies to many kids who live below the poverty level.

Vogtle Units 3 and 4 are being built "next door" to two long-running nuclear units -- namely, Units 1 and 2.  In the artist's concept below (courtesy Southern Company and Georgia Power) we can see the original Units 1 and 2 over on the right of the picture, with the new Units 3 and 4 on the left, with the entire site pictured showing all four units complete and in operation as is expected to occur in 2020.
